Education is not filling a bucket, but lighting a fire…
Creating life-long learners

3rd through 8th grade scholars recently went skiing and snowboarding for PE at Sipapu. They had a wonderful time taking lessons and enjoying the snow!
Our school was founded over 20 years ago by a group of people who had a unique vision of how young minds should be educated. Our scholars are provided a rich education founded on the idea that all learning should be done with a hands-on, active approach to the educational standards, now known as the Common Core State Standards. The staff provide rich learning experiences based on the principles of ecology and the arts. Our school is part of the Community Schools Alliance developed by the NMPED. Through this initiative, our scholars learn by doing field work in and around the community through partnerships with local colleges and the university, as well as, local parks in Las Vegas and Mora Counties. Our scholars have unique opportunities with programs like Outdoor Education, Creative Arts and Performing Arts classes, which support our hands-on, active approach to learning. Through the years our school has developed an atmosphere that is all-inclusive, supportive, and family-oriented which supports our school motto: RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, and above all else BE KIND.
Ben Franklin stated,
“Tell me and I will forget,
Teach me and I will remember,
Involve me and I will Learn.”
